How to merge PDF files

Follow these steps to combine PDFs with PDF Merger. The same workbench is on the home page. This guide adds detail for first-time use, mobile devices, and errors.

  1. Step 1: Add your PDFs

Drop files onto the workbench or choose them from your device. You can add more files at any time before you merge.

  2. Step 2: Arrange the order

Drag a file, or use the up and down buttons, so the documents appear in the sequence you want in the final PDF.

  3. Step 3: Merge and download

Select Merge PDF. When processing finishes, download the combined file. Temporary copies are removed after download or within a few minutes.

Choose and add files

Use the large drop area or the file picker. You can select several files at once. Only PDF documents are accepted. If you accidentally add a Word file or an image, it is ignored or rejected before the merge starts.

Add more files after the first batch. New files appear at the bottom of the list. Move them up if they belong earlier in the packet.

Set the reading order

On a desktop, drag a row by the handle on the left. On a phone, use the up and down buttons. The top file becomes the first pages of the merged PDF. Clear a single file with its remove button, or start over with Clear all.

Merge and save

The Merge PDF button stays disabled until at least two valid PDFs are in the list. After you click it, a progress bar shows the upload. When the server finishes, download the file. If you close the tab before downloading, you can merge again; the previous result is removed automatically after a short time.

Tips for a clean result

  • Give source files clear names so you can recognize them in the list.
  • Put a cover page or table of contents first.
  • Remove password protection in another tool before you upload.
  • Stay within the file count and size limits shown above the workbench.

If something goes wrong

A message appears above the list. Encrypted files, empty files, and files that are not PDFs are the usual causes. Remove the named file and merge the rest. If the download link expires, run the merge again. Nothing is kept as a user account or file history.
